Train to Ground &
Internet Access

The on-board Communications Equipment called Wireless Data Link (WDL) is the train installed communications system with data and multimedia communications capability, allowing Wi-Fi and cellular (3G or 4G) communications between the train and the ground (OCC). It also can provide internet access for the passengers. For railways operators, this service is a competitive advantage and gives an additional argument to attract new passengers by improving their level of comfort on-board. Passenger Internet Access (PIA) system set up a wireless link between the train and the Internet Service Provider (ISPs) to provide internet access (Wi-Fi) to the passengers and even a special access (superuser) to the crew members

Main features
  • Dedicated Cellular & Wi-Fi Link with the wayside public internet.
  • Interface with the train unit’s Ethernet Network.
  • Designed with the highest degree of security.
  • Interface with the onboard Central Diagnostic System (CDS) & the Central Diagnostic Panel (CDP).
  • Interface with the Wayside Monitoring & Diagnostic System (WMDS) of the OCC through the onboard dedicated Wireless link.

Network

With the technical development of the on-board subsystems, there has been in parallel a demand for more reliable and powerful networks. The networks are really the frame on which the most advanced systems are assembled, supporting the transfer of multimedia information and all necessary data information to integrate everything on a train. Networks need to provide high bandwidth and capability to manage all the information that the other SEPSAMEDHA’s onboard systems handle: Communication systems, Control systems, Passenger Information systems, and Security systems, as well as other third-party systems. The particularities of the network of a train, when being a composition of vehicles coupled that are in motion, make that, it should be able to handle the traffic and avoid IP conflicts, even if the train composition is reordered and physically modified.

Main features

  • Redundancy management in ECN and ETB via VRRP
  • Fast Ethernet ports combined with/without PoE, for end-devices, Gigabit ports for ring connection and for Mobile Gateway / Router interconnection on-board networks / specific end-device.
  • ECS1: ECN basic node.
  • ETBN: “Mixed” ECN and ETB node.
  • Router according to ETB operation.
  • Obtaining/managing/provisioning of train topology information.
  • Integrates standard DNS and DHCP servers (IP assignment per connection port).
  • ECS2: “Mixed” ECN and ETB node.
