Electronic Hardware/Firmware Engineer

At SepsaMedha, our goal is to be on top of the strong innovation requirements that the 21st century railway market demands, with new products for the passenger comfort, using the most advanced technologies. Innovative CCTV systems, self-diagnosis capabilities, high edge service and maintenance activities and onboard infotainment equipment are some of the new products that SepsaMedha is working on nowadays. We’re seeking an Electronic Hardware Engineer to design and develop electronic boards/equipment for onboard telematic and multimedia systems.

Objectives of the role:

1) Achieve a profound knowledge of current ASFA-Digital Automatic Train Protection (ATP) equipment architectural, hardware and FPGA-based firmware design. Then evolve, adapt, and maintain the equipment HW and FPGA-FW designs, as needed to meet functional, performance and safety requirements set for new system applications. Become a Lead HW/FW Engineer for ATP solutions, able to envisage conceptual and hight-level designs, and to set technical guidelines and drive their application, with other HW/FW developers, in future application projects.

2) Perform hardware and firmware development activities, covering specification, high-level and detailed design (at electrical schematic level), firmware coding, simulation, unitary testing with debugging, and integration & validation tests with prototypes of boards and equipment. Preparation of HW/FW technical documents across product lifecycle (specifications, design descriptions, tests procedures, tech review reports, other).

3) Design and develop test jigs / test support boards, as needed to perform type, routine testing of electronic boards, also integration & validation tests of complete equipment and final system applications.

4) Provide technical support on system HW/FW design, to Project, System, Software and Verification & Validation Engineers. Contribute to technical studies/analysis related to system applications, including problem analysis and resolution by HW/FW changes, electronic components obsolescence management, feasibility of possible modification/evolution of HW/FW designs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master degree in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering
  • At least two-year experience in design of FPGA-based electronic boards, for railways, aeronautics, space and/or defence application domain, including development in VHDL of their programmed logic, preferred using Xilink ISE / Vivado toolsets.

Will be highly valuated:

  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best‑practice and performance standards in Railway Industry, particularly CENELEC RAMS Series (EN50126/50128/50129) applied to HW/FW designs.
  • Knowledge of railways signalling, ATP/ATO solutions (ASFA, LZB, ERTMS, other)
  • Experience in PCB design, E-CAD tools CADSTAR and/or Altium. Design for EMI/EMC.

  • Language: High level of written and spoken English (mandatory).
  • Travel: International travel is eventually required (<20%).

Embedded Software Engineer

We’re seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for the development and adaptative, corrective and evolutionary maintenance of software products embedded in telematic and multimedia systems.

Objectives of the role:

1) Achieve a profound knowledge of current railways onboard Telematics and Multimedia Systems architectural/high-level and detailed software design. Then evolve, adapt, and maintain the embedded software products, as needed to meet functional, performance, cybersecurity and safety requirements set for new Systems applications.

2) Perform embedded software development activities, covering specification, high-level and detailed design, programming, unitary testing with debugging, and integration & validation tests with in-house developed target systems. Preparation of Software technical documents across product lifecycle (specifications, design descriptions, tests procedures, tech review reports, other).

3) Design and develop auxiliary software products as needed to perform testing of software and hardware products, and complete onboard systems.

4) Provide technical support on system SW design, to Project, System, Hardware/Firmware and Verification & Validation Engineers. Contribute to technical studies/analysis related to system applications, including problem analysis and resolution by SW changes, feasibility of possible modification/evolution of SW designs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master degree in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering
  • At least two-year experience in development of embedded software products, for railways, aeronautics, space and/or defence application domain, covering requirements analysis, design, coding and testing, applying both Structured and Object Oriented techniques.
  • Really good programming skills in C and C++ languages, and in bash scripting. Coding in Python will be a valuable skill.
  • Strong background in embedded Linux OS for ARM-based HW/SW platform, and practical experience in development of SW products for such platform. Knowledge and experience in using SW tools applied to development (i.e. GDB, Eclipse, Wireshark, QT 5, Valgrind, other),

Will be highly valuated:

  • Experience in configuration of the Linux kernel and development of kernel modules / hardware drivers / and BSP with Yocto Project.
  • Experience in development of bare-metal embedded SW for uController-based hardware platforms (STM32, other).
  • Good knowledge of datacomms solutions with experience in practical implementation (i.e. RS232/485, CAN, TCN MVB/WTB, ethernet, other)
  • Practical experience in SW development for distributed systems over IP networks, and particularly for VoIP and/or IP-Video based applications: audio, video codecs (G711, H.264, H.265), network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTPS, RTSP, SIP, QoS, …)
  • Experience in development of Human-Machine Interface software, preferably based on middleware supporting multiplatform graphical interfaces (QT, similar).
  • Some background in cybersecurity, with some experience in implementation of cybersecurity measures in embedded software products.
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best‑practices and performance standards in Railway Industry, particularly CENELEC RAMS Software standard EN50128.
  • Knowledge of reference models and standards related to Systems and SW Engineering (CMMI, IEEE, other)

Project / Systems Engineer

We’re seeking an Technical Project Manager / Systems Engineer who is responsible for the execution in compliance with requirements of telematic and multimedia systems engineering projects, to be accomplished within scope of SEPSAMEDHA Contracts.

Objectives of the role:

  • Manage all activities of engineering project: plan execution, define priorities, track and report on status/progress up to their completion. Coordinate their execution with project/contract team members from other Depts (Manufacturing, Tests, Purchases, other).
  • Lead accomplishment of System Requirements Analysis, Concept & Architectural Design, Integration & Validation Tests and Acceptance & Commissioning stages of engineering projects. Define/Agree system interfaces to third-parties. Establish technical guidelines, restrictions and criteria for validation of systems within project.
  • Provide technical guidance to the engineering project team, prepare System Tech Specification and contribute to the preparation of all remaining technical project deliverable documents, then review and approve them. Organize and lead project technical design reviews.
  • Support the overall Project Manager in all subjects related to the engineering project, especially in the technical matters. Participate in meetings with Customer Project Management and Engineering teams, addressing discussions/questions/issues related to technical topics/issues and engineering project tracking & oversight. Provide technical support in case of issues during Deployment, Commissioning and Warranty phases of project.
  • Track and control that Non-Recurrent and Recurrent Costs (NRC & RC) are below estimates and targets, and that committed project milestones are met.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Good background and some practical experience in development of electronic equipment hardware and/or firmware/embedded software.
  • Desired knowledge of Stds applicable to On-board Railways electronic systems (CENELEC, IEEE, other)
  • Background in Systems Engineering (Systems Development Life-Cycle models and processes, requirements management and traceability, interfaces management, integration & validation testing, etc)
  • Management of (R&D) Projects (planning, tracking & oversight). Requirements Management. Risk Management. Product Configuration Management. Problems Resolution. Leadership of Technical Teams.

Academic qualification:

  • Engineering Master (Electronics, Telecommunications, Computers)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

Language skills:

  • Good level of written and spoken English

Minimum experience:

  • 5-10 years of professional experience –at least 2 of them as technical manager / systems engineer of Electronic Systems development projects, preferred in on-board application domains (Railways, Automotive, Aeronautics/Space, Defence).
